Pre-Move Checklist
Moving can be a stressful time. That is why we have designed a handy pre-move checklist to help you plan all the details, so you can relax while we do all the heavy lifting! To make things even easier, you can print off the page and tick each task off as you complete it.
Book Your Removal Service
- Arrange a free removal quotation and ensure you show the estimator all the items you want removing so you can be sure you are getting an accurate quotation.
- Notify the removal company of any non-step free access and relevant parking restrictions at the collection and delivery addresses.
- Advise whether you require a packing service.
- Confirm your removal service date and complete any booking forms and contracts as necessary.
- Cancel relevant rental agreements.
Current Home
- Take time to sort through your belongings so you are not moving items you do not want.
- Empty loft and any outhouses.
- Defrost freezer.
- Remove any light fittings, carpets and blinds and other fixtures you wish to move (if applicable)
- Arrange for special TV satellites or aerials to be taken down.
Change of Address
- Notify utility companies (gas, water, electric, TV, broadband, phone etc) of moving date and cancellation of contracts as necessary.
- Tell your local council you are moving for the purpose of council tax bills and any local benefits you may be receiving.
- Notify the inland revenue of your change of address.
- Notify your doctor of change of address.
- Inform banks, credit card loan and leasing companies of your new address.
- Arrange postal redirection services.
- Inform TV licence of change of address.
- Cancel any milk deliveries.
- Change address with any magazine subscriptions.
- Notify friends, family and employer of change of address.
Moving Day
- Take meter readings for gas, electricity and water.
- Check travel conditions so you can plan a diversion if required.
- Separate valuable items, keys and important documents so that they are accessible at all times.
- Prepare an easily accessible refreshment pack including kettle, mugs, snacks and drinks.
- Ensure children's favourite toys are easily accessible and ready for the journey.
New Home
- Measure rooms and plan where furniture and belongings will go to ensure they fit.
- Arrange carpet fitters if necessary.
- Register on the electoral roll in your new area.
- Register with the local doctor.
- Arrange for satellite dishes and TV aerials to be fitted.
- Notify utility companies and record meter readings.
